Co-Living Resources
About
In 2024, SSHA3P, in partnership with the Cities and Towns of DuPont, Edgewood, Fife, Fircrest, Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Puyallup, Steilacoom, and University Place, was awarded the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Low-Income Housing Planning (CLIHP) Grant to support implementation of HB 1998 (2024) regarding co-living housing. The grant will support creation of the following deliverables:
- Report summarizing background information and stakeholder input. (Completed by SSHA3P staff in June 2024).
- Communication materials regarding co-living housing types. (Completed by SSHA3P staff in June 2024.)
- Model ordinance for co-living housing consistent with RCW 36.70A.
- Final recommendations for each jurisdiction on implementing the model ordinance and removing barriers to development of co-living housing to meet the needs of low and very low-income households.
SSHA3P has contracted with Makers Architecture and Urban Design to support completion of Deliverables #3 and #4.
Stakeholder Outreach Report
The Stakeholder Outreach Report outlines what co-living housing is, common barriers to development, and communication strategies for engaging with the public, Councils, and advisory bodies about this type of development. The report is informed by interviews with developers of co-living housing.
